Work Bench (November 15th)

One of the minor setbacks in getting started was the re-construction of a work area. The photo below shows the new work area. The work surface is a 36" wide counter top hung on heavy duty shelf brackets. This replaces a 10 foot counter that ran the length of the wall. That was prior to the 200 Gallon aquarium in the view. That's another interesting story, and we have fun getting 350 pounds of glass trough the window (it wouldn't bend around the hall way). I've moved my computer to a 6 foot counter across from the aquarium. I've also had to relocate storage, books, etc. to make room for the fish tank. We thought the tank was 6 feet long, but it turned out to be 7 feet, and didn't fit in any of the other places we planned on putting it. Oh well. In addition to this work space and the computer station, I also have a wood shop I can use if things get too big.

Not shown in the picture of the shelf bracket is a wooden strip that supports the counter, and allows the counter to be cantilevered past the end of the brackets. The front of the wood strips can be seen at the edges of the work surface. The strips are screwed into the bottom of the counter top and bolted through holes drilled in the shelf brackets.
